Geldrop, the friendly village from the south. Nobody knows how old it is, but it is considered as one of the oldest places in the Netherlands, because it is certain that 10,000 years ago hunters were living here (2 stones were found; one of a reindeer horn and one dancing girl). Also there are traces and findings of the New Stone Edge (3,000 BC), Roman Empire (350 after Christ) and Middle Ages. The village Geldrop, which means 'Gelders dorp', a village in Brabant belonging to the old of province Gelre. It started as a Gelres enclave in Brabant. The village of 27,000 inhabitants is situated only 3 miles east from Eindhoven and has his own train station.

In this village still a lot of it's history can be seen. From the Middle Ages dates the Castle of Geldrop, still is standing near the heart of the village and for sure worth a visit. Very popular as a wedding location and for the castle park. Also the corn-mill 't Nupke of 1854 is still standing near the centre, as the great Saint Brigidakerk from 1891. Other monuments which are on the Dutch monument-list: the Saint Vincentiusbuilding at the Langstraat, the farmershouse at the Mackenziestraat, the Church of Hoog Geldrop, the weaving mill museum, the factory pand at the Heuvel and the former Town Hall at the Heuvel.

Nearby are a zoo and the Strabrechtse Heide for people who love to walk in the nature. Old Prime Minister Van Agt is born in Geldrop, and famous swimmer Pieter van den Hoogenband grew up in Geldrop.
