1. Gaziantep is so famous with its cuisine and deserts...so try to taste all kind of dishes not only Kebabs or Lahmacun...it has also lots of vegitable dishes...there are lots of nice restuarants...However,people who from outside of the city ,go to İmam cagdas Restuarant near by the castle...Gaziantep has the biggest kitchen in Turkey, it has originally over 300 different dishes...and about deserts...you are going to eat the most delicious Baklava in the world..I suggest you to try my favourite sweets..Katmer and Burma Kadayıf...

2. You should visit the castle of the city..it was built by the Roman Empire..it looks amazing in the middle of the city..go up and take some photos..

3.Go to archelogical museum...they also exhibite the mosaics of Zeugma there..Meanwile, The biggest mosaic museum in the world is being built near by silk road in gaziantep...You will like the mosaics..and the museum...

4.go to the kitchen museum near by the castle and you can also visit the Glass Museum there...

5.find a nice turkish coffee house..there is a few near by the castle and drink "zahter"
(thyme) tea....

6. go to old bazaars around downtown...

7. go to hamam...Gaziantep also famous with its hamams...but find a nice one...

8.visit Kurtulus mosque (was a church) and Kendirli Church...

9.take a dolmus ( minibus ) and visit Rumkale and halfeti..

10.make a friend there ..see how Gaziantep's Culture totally different than other cities...you should have a dinner with a family to see how the eating is important for them....

well...if you come to Turkey one day, people suggest you to visit istanbul or towns by the sea...usually west of turkey...ancient sites etc...and you cant have a chance or get into with local people...I lived in Toronto two years...somethings that I couldnt understand about canadian culture or society came clear after two years..I think sometimes we have to be patient to understand...Gaziantep is an interesting place...it is one of the oldest city in the world...and there is not many tourists right now..but I am sure it would more soon...you can just visit Gaziantep to taste the best food in turkey and deserts such as baklava in turkey...hope to see you in gaziantep:)))

I feel and hear the passion of your words!! Great writing!!
It would be wonderful to eat with a family and watch them and taste!! I agree, to really understand and absorb another culture you have to enter into it, so often we think we have tasted another country, just because we visited there and read about it!!
:) this is good!!

Thanks for the review! I didn't get a chance to visit here when I visited Turkey, but it sounds like a very interesting place.

Gaziantep Archeology Museum (Zeugma Eserleri) May 15, 2008
We visited the Archeology Museum while we were in Gaziantep for one day. There is really a fantastic collection of mosaics to see for example Achilles At Skyros, The Gypsy Gırl and many others.

Entrance is only 2 Turkish lire .

So if you are in Gaziantep and if you are interested in history the museum is really worth to see!
