Gateway Auto Museum Reviews
Beutiful cars Apr 22, 2009
This was another road trip we spent with some friends. A beutiful drive and a beutiful area. My buddy was the chef at the resturant at the resort. So of course the food was GREAT! but to be honest he is not there anymore and i dont know who the chef is now or even what the menu is like. But thats not the point of this review. Rardless of the resort itself, Whats worth coming out here to gateway is the museum. An auto museum to be exact. Not to mention the beutiful drive to get there from whitewater colorado. Ive actualy pulled of the road to points of interest and seen bears! Right off the road.
Anyways the museum itself is a collection and history of cars that happens to be the private collection of the guy that owns the discovery channel. As a matter of fact he owns the whole resort, We had to compete with his private pilot for service at the resturaunt(not as bad as it sounds)he had a seat on the patio witch was closed but he got the exception. I told the head water that i was special too and want to sit outside with my date! And we did, that was the end of it and the service was pretty good.
Well this review is turning out to be longer than i planned and i havent even gotten to the museum yet. But i think its important to know where you would be going. The gateway resort is very new and going thru growing pains. Like i said, my buddy was the chef at the time and the food was great but he quit for a reason. The management needs to be worked out. This place is in the middle of no where with nothing around. It was also summer 2008 last time i was there. There are many plans and projects to expand and turn this place into a quality resort.
With that said, the drive and the museum is totally woth it! At least for a day trip. When you go in there are some amazing cars right out front and in the door. You will start with a video that explains the history of the cars that are actually there and its very impressive. One of the cars is a prototype from the 50's that sold for a record breaking 3 million. Cars that were custom made for movie stars such as Marylen Monroe just to be pulled up to the red carpet, and of course some muscle cars that were built for and seen on the discovery channel. These cars are extremely rare and georges and very old. Worth seeing for sure. If you have read my 1st blog then you know my laptop got fried by the cat so my pics are gone im sorry to say.
One tip. If you head out there take youre motorcycle or convertable. the drive is awesome!
