The fertile countryside, the mild climate (due to the large lakes), the great variety of arable produce which can enjoy alpine micro-climates as well as the Po’s climate, have allowed a variety of the gastronomic offerings as large as the dimension of the territory. It is enough to think of Garda’s lemons and citrons, famous for their characteristic aroma, once grown on the banks of the Lake. Nowadays the Brescian land offers wines such as Franciacorta, Lugana, Capriano, Botticino or Chiaretto del Garda; the last was first produced in the 19th century and can still compete with international wines. Various and different cheeses, such as the traditional "bagoss" and the "formaggella of Tremosine", as well as the excellent mature "Grana Padano", the robiole or taleggi, result of selected dairy produce, are gourmet specialities. Fish too, such as carpione, coregone and tinca, has an excellent tradition, due to the clean and fresh water of mountain streams, the presence of large lakes and intelligent fish breeding.
