Fair and square - a bit far from the city center Dec 30, 2011
I was visiting Berlin for New Year Evening with my friend Jacob. We had decided way too late to go find a reasonable priced hotel room in Berlin city center. Berlin is known for throwing one of the best New Year parties in the world at Brandenburger Tor. We therefore turned to a hotel that Jacob had used some times before. The hotel had an available double room for 78 euro per night and we decided to go for it. Jacob was very happy about his hotel and he said that there were nice bars and restaurants in the area.

We arrived at the hotel just before 9 pm Friday evening; we had actually arrived a couple of hours earlier and we had started by driving by some of our friends who just had moved to Berlin just to say hallo. We found the hotel easily with the help of my GPS and were lucky enough to find a parking space just in front of the hotel. We stepped in to the hotel that looked like a normal house in the housing area except for the entrance that stated that it was hotel.

Inside it looked like some of these country hotels that I many times had entered in the German countryside. The first thing that met us was a reception desk that more looked like an English bar than something you find in a hotel entrance. The downstairs area was pretty small and also contained the breakfast area. Behind the counter there was a woman greeting us; she gave us the room key and Jacob went up to the room with luggage while I tried to pay for the room. The payment part was not as easy as I had expected because the credit card machine didn’t work and I had to pay the 156 euros in cash after having tried all my different cards.

I paid and walked up to the second floor there was no elevator in the hotel. The stairs were high because the rooms had high ceiling. The room was okay, and the size was really good. There was fair bathroom; it was clean and it had a nice size too. There were two beds in the room each standing next to the wall opposite each other. There was a sofa where we could have our stuff and there was a desk. The TV was the smallest you can get but we were not in town for staying in the room. There was also a large window section facing the square where we also had parked.

Jacob had already broken a couple of beers when I entered and we sat down and enjoyed the beers and smiled about being back at the hotel. We were meeting our friends at Alexander Platz just after 9 pm so we drank the beers and went back to the reception in order to have them to book a taxi. Getting from the hotel to the city center cost around 18 euro, but there are cheaper alternatives with the nearby U-Bahn.

The breakfast at the hotel was fair and the served the most essential; there were boiled eggs but no bacon. They naturally served a number of sausages and liver paste. The hotel was full and so were the small restaurant area when we were there.

Budget traveller to stay in Berlin May 19, 2011
The Location Sets in a quiet side street in central Berlin, the Gasteiner Hof is just 50 metres from the Blissestrasse U-Bahn (underground) station. And to get to the Schönefeld Airport and from the airport is Just easy way to take bus and continue with taking subway.

It is very clean room and big bed eventhough for single occupant and the Staff is very Friendly and helpful, so If you plan to Visit Berlin and want to find a good place to stay with the Traveller budget then the hotel is absolutely recommended
