Gassaway Overview

Gassaway is a small town of about 900 (pretty much unchanged since 2000) located on West Virginia Highway 4 just off Interstate 79 in Braxton County in the center of the state. The town was laid out in 1904 and served as the terminus for two parts of the Coal & Coke Railroad. Gassaway was selected because of its central location and the fact that it was on the edge of the flat plain leading to Charleston and the more hilly area leading towards Elkins. The Gassaway Depot is very nice and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
