The Garrison Historic Area in Barbados is where the army was stationed starting in the 1660s. Many of the barracks that remain are still in good condition, but are being used for other purposes. You’ll find the Garrison Savannah Racetrack that was once used as a parade ground at the center of Garrison Historic Area. A magnificent site to see is the Main Guard building that was once used to hold court-martials. Some other things to check-out while in the Garrison Historic Area are: George Washington House (, in 1751, George Washington stayed in Barbados for a few days, Barbados Museum, and St. Ann’s Fort that was built in 1713. Let me not forget to mention the National Cannon Collection can also be seen while visiting the Garrison Historic Area. All of the aforementioned sites are worth a visit.
