Garnet Ghost Town is a well-preserved ghost town in the heart of western Montana. The site is not too far from Missoula, a cool mountain town and home to the University of Montana. There is an historical society which manages the ghost town. In the past, rooms in the historic buildings could be reserved through the historical society, but they are extremely rustic. In the winter the ghost town can be accessed by snowmobile. Following the winter and spring season, the road typically opens to regular vehicle traffic in late April or May. Garnet is a great day trip from Missoula. Plus, it's not far from fly fishing, tubing, kayaking and other fun on the famous Blackfoot River. There are campsites and other recreational facilities along the Blackfoot River. Overall, between the ghost town and the river, it's a great place to enjoy the mountain life.
