Easy to read, directions to where you desire. Jan 24, 2013
I have been an avid fan of GPS systems since my first one, back several years ago. My first one was a nuvi 350 and it still runs just well as when I purchased it. My second one was a nuvi 1300, which was slightly bigger, with a 4.33” screen and was quite slender. This new one is the nuvi 40LM. The same size as the last one but just a tad thinker, which means it will not quite fit the dashboard mount for the older one. The reason I have purchased new ones first was for the updated maps, which were pretty expensive to purchase each year. Now this newest one not only has some great updates to the software but also comes with free map updates for life. I just couldn’t pass that up. And the upgrades are pretty nice. First, on most roads the speed limit is shown in the bottom right corner of the map and your speed is shown just to the left of it. But if you go over that posted limit the number of your speed turns red. Next has to do with changing from one highway or freeway to another. It now shows how many lanes are going each direction and as you get close the screen splits and shows two, making it much more clear which way you are to go and which lanes to be in. The software keeps track of your mileage and gas costs, which is a nice feature and the feature I like the most is being able to find points of interest as you are moving from place to place. I usually let my wife do this as I am driving so I am not distracted. And they can be for anything from a place to eat or hotel, or amusement park, or anything else you can imagine. Oh, there are a few things that have clanged a little on the down side. My first one had maps for all of the USA and Canada, but his new one only covers the U.S. Also, there are fewer voices available to choose from to tell you the names of the streets and tell you “recalculating”, although they have many languages to tell you that. I have long ago turned off that part of the software off. I tend to go the way I wish instead of the shortest distance or quickest way and that means hearing “recalculating” over and over again during a trip.
Easy to read directions are shown …
The new split screen shows how man…
Some of the options to help you.

Hi Roger, what a great idea to review your Nuvi GPS. I have one too (for Europe) and I love the feature 'walking modus' which you can use when you decide to get out of the car and start using your legs ;-)

Congrats on having your review featured today.
