Garden View Inn Ella Reviews
Garden View Inn Sep 08, 2011
The Garden View Inn is located in the centre of Ella - but honestly all the accommodation in Ella is pretty much in the centre of town considering it’s a tiny village. The Garden Vies is a bit up a hill but still on the main road - you don’t have to worry about noise from the road during the night - there is hardly any traffic late at night. For the moment the hotel is fairly small with only a few rooms - but they are in the process of expanding the hotel with a new building right down at the road. For the moment the hotel is small and the small staff doesn’t seem to be over worked and they are generally quite helpful and friendly. They would give some advice where you could go for hikes in the neighborhood around Ella and just seemed happy to have a few guest so they got something to do during the day. This might be different in the busy season if the hotel is actually full.
The rooms are basic but clean and as long as you mainly use the room for sleeping you’ll be fine. If you are in need of modern day technology you will be missing a few things - like the television and the internet access. But it’s a small town so you can find internet down at the main road.
The main building is covered in some sort of Christmas light at night - for some strange reason Sri Lankans seem to like covering hotels and restaurants in tacky lightings which is barely usable as Christmas decorations and just looks stupid during the rest of the year. Fortunately the curtains in the rooms will easily shield you from the light.
The hotel got a restaurant and they will serve all meals during the day. The food is quite good regular Sri Lankan food so you can easily stay and eat at the hotel if you can’t be bother to go down the small hill up to the hotel. You can book the dinner and breakfast ahead of time if you want - which is probably the best option considering most hotels in Sri Lanka don’t really do fast food in their restaurants.
The views from the hotel isn’t quite as good as you might have expected here in the hill country of Sri Lanka - but this goes for most of the hotels in the central part of Ella. But you definitely feel you are close to the nature here in Ella. In the mornings when I was sitting on the terrace having my breakfast birds came flying down to visit and they flew inside the hotel which kept the doors open during the day. The tiny birds didn’t seem nervous around people so they would come up to you and eat the scraps at you breakfast table - at least if you made sure to put them at the far corner from where you would be sitting.

Affordable clean guesthouse Feb 02, 2010
This is a decent option in Ella. I walked round a few others such as Beauty Mount and Hilltop Guesthouse who were either full or asking too much.
The room I got was LKR750 single occupancy or LKR1,000 for a twin. The room was clean, although the matresses and sheets were thin and not overly comfortable. The bathroom was clean, although the hot water was temperamental.
The food served downstairs was very nice, got a massive rice and curry for LKR250 a person, with about 6 dishes of curry/sides. The only downside is that you really have to order in advance and the owner puts a bit of pressure on to do so.
Overall, I was happy with my stay here.
