too much noise, way over hyped! Mar 10, 2008
The meat packing district is tres trendy these days, and the Gansevoort Hotel is THE hotel in the middle of it all. It gets alot of hype as a trendy action spot, but its a real mistake to stay here. The place is most famous for its super crowded top floor bar, and most nights the line for the bar stretches outside around the corner. As a guest of the hotel you have to prove yourself to get in the door past security for the bar on weekends, and the disco thump is loud throughout the building and onto the street. The rooms are small and overpriced. Sure they're trendy with decent amenities, but it seems that most weekends the rooms are over occupied with hen (bachelorette) party attendees. The noise is so loud that, depite claimed double glazed windows, you can't sleep. Usually on weekends, the only other hotel bar (downstairs) is also rented out to private parties. That leaves hotel guests to fend for themselves at the service type bar in the next door mediocre restaurant - not a good alternative for a nitecap. There are so many great places to stay in NYC. This isn't one of them. Spend your money elsewhere.

…reflected in the shimmering water, and to top it off, hooked up with some interesting characters, who invited me to a party at the Gansevoort hotel. Since the Meatpacking District was on my list anyway, I agreed, and it didn't eaxtly turn out the way I had in mind, but to make a long story short - I was out on the streets in New York City at 2 a.m., wide… Day Out in NYC - Part 2

A 3 story Apple Store looms overhead as the trendy Gansevoort Hotel pumps trendy music. I just enjoyed the scene and liked people watching on this chilly friday night! By about 1am I was exhausted having covered much ground in one day. It was time to head back to the hotel. … Exploring the Big Apple
