Galway is located on the west coast of ireland, roughly a three hour bus ride from the hustle and bustle of Dublin. The city name derives from the Gaelic \'Gaillimh\' after the river but the meaning id unclear and disputed. One theory is that it is the name of a gaelic chieftain who drowned there! Today Galway is reputed to be the fastest growing city in Europe. Prosperity has returned with a vengeance. During the summer months traffic congestion is virtually unbearable; The Galway Arts Festival is followed & race-meeting at the end of July attracts thousands to the suburb of Ballybrit, where vast sums are wagered over six days racing. A variety of other festivals keep the city busy all through the summer, as Galway has gone back to its historic pre-occupation with trade, commerce and the making of money.
Galway contains two universities - the national University of Ireland, Galway, & the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology. The overall population is quite young, and the city definitely has that \'college town\' feel in some respects. Most activities center around Eyre Square with many small roads leading off offering various establishments to eat, drink, and shop. A good daytrip can bring you to the magnificient Cliffs of Moher, or the Aran Islands. Galway is known for being a cultural hub in Ireland and it hosts numerous festivals and activities throughout the year - most notably the Arts Festival & Galway Races (horses) in the last week of July.

I arrived in Galway on a wonderful sunny evening. And the evenings in Ireland are quite sunny, it doesn't get dark until 11pm, which causes me a great amount of confusion expecially since my watch stopped working :( Anyway, I meet a couple of American girls while checking into my hostel, who couldn't believe I was from Vegas because they thought I talked with an accent? Anyway, we went out together for dinner. I ate some sting ray. It was different, a bit bland honestly. Then we ended up in a...

Hey, sorry about the lack of updates, I've been really busy with school and when I actually get home to sit down a write I'm too tired. That and as of last night my internet has died. Well what is happening with me now? I went to the Aran Islands with Katie, Lindsay, and Meghan the other weekend, we went to Inishmore which was fantastic. We walked around most of the island, which included trudging across an open expanse of rock in the rain to reach the cliffs on the ot...

anna and i headed to galway for four days to get away from the hustle
and bustle of dublin. we wanted to go the aran islands, as well as the
cliffs of moher. galway itself was a nice little town, and quite a
change from dublin. its basically a bunch of pubs around one square -
with a pedestrian walkway going off one side which has more shops and
pubs.
we made it out to the largest of the aran islands - inishmore - and we
had quite a walk from the dock all the way to Dun Aengus - an a...
