I arrived in Galway on a wonderful sunny evening. And the evenings in Ireland are quite sunny, it doesn't get dark until 11pm, which causes me a great amount of confusion expecially since my watch stopped working :( Anyway, I meet a couple of American girls while checking into my hostel, who couldn't believe I was from Vegas because they thought I talked with an accent? Anyway, we went out together for dinner. I ate some sting ray. It was different, a bit bland honestly. Then we ended up in a...

Hey, sorry about the lack of updates, I've been really busy with school and when I actually get home to sit down a write I'm too tired. That and as of last night my internet has died. Well what is happening with me now? I went to the Aran Islands with Katie, Lindsay, and Meghan the other weekend, we went to Inishmore which was fantastic. We walked around most of the island, which included trudging across an open expanse of rock in the rain to reach the cliffs on the ot...

One idle Friday morning Mother decided she wanted to go find Padraig Pearse's House in connemara, Co.Gaway. This was the place he used to bring his students from Dublin to learn and experience the Irish language, which at that time was not being taught in most irish schools. I was due back in Italy a few days later so we figured we'd take a road trip. We set of 9-ish and after 2 hours arrived in Galway city, but kept going on towards the desolate, no-man's-land that is Connemara.
For an...

anna and i headed to galway for four days to get away from the hustle
and bustle of dublin. we wanted to go the aran islands, as well as the
cliffs of moher. galway itself was a nice little town, and quite a
change from dublin. its basically a bunch of pubs around one square -
with a pedestrian walkway going off one side which has more shops and
pubs.
we made it out to the largest of the aran islands - inishmore - and we
had quite a walk from the dock all the way to Dun Aengus - an a...

It was Saturday morning and time to move on down the road. After another delicious breakfast in the hotel's dining room, Des loaded our luggage into the van and I checked out at the front desk. The weather was again cool and damp and I was somewhat worried about the high winds. We were prepared for mother nature's nasty mood with warm scarfs and sweaters. The narrow two-lane country road took us into the town of Ballyvaughan. Street artists were set up on the si...

Hey everyone, sorry it has been so long since I last wrote. A lot has happened since Cork! We are now in Galway, but let me catch you up. After Cork we went to Kenmare, the Ring of Kerry, and Dingle, which were all gorgeous! I don't remember if Rock of Cashel, Cobh, and Waterford were before or after Cork (that just shows how many places we've been too!) So I'll write briefly about them too. The Rock of Cashel is a huge cathedral on a hill above the town of Cashel. This is the cathedral where...

So I finally bid farewell to the folks at Mainister House and got on the noon ferry. It was tough and I know I'll have to say a lot of good byes along the way, but if I plan to get to Dublin next Friday, I knew I had to get moving. Some other long term guests finally left with me this a.m. Anyway, after a quick bus ride after arriving on the mainland, I'm in Galway. It's a bigger city, a college town really. Lots of people busily walking here and there and not mu...

After a busy, fun filled day driving all over northwestern Ireland, we reached Galway. As our drive wound the bus down the narrow streets, we reached one place near the hostel where traffic was backed up. As we got off the bus to investigate, we could see that there were several cars waiting for an old lady to parallel park her car. Now, these roads are so narrow that you can't even squeeze another car by, and so we were stuck. Until, that is, our bus driver walked ove...

Laura, Kate, and I rented a bike last night and went off on a trail along the river. It led to a really beautiful castle covered in ivy. We managed to wake up this morning for breakfast... toast and coffee... but we definitely got our moneys worth, we practically took a loaf of bread with us for pb&j's. Then I made it out of the hostel and across the street before a curb and me had a little falling out... litterally.... I went flying. Then off in a triangle route leading to spiddal (45k i...

After a most needed night of sleep, Jim and I got back into our little Ford Focus and began our drive to the East Coast of Ireland. Once we arrived in Galway City we checked into our B&B, which had a wonderful view of Galway Bay, relaxed for a little while, then headed into the city to explore. Our B&B was about a 15 minute walk from the city centre--not as far as it first seemed! We lingered on the bridge of the river and looked out over the bay, admiring the scenery--colorful buildi...

Clare has beautiful countryside, small town life, and interesting historical sites. One of the best things I did there was to take one of the tour buses to the Cliffs of Moher and other sites along the way. Tours leave from Ennis and Galway for a good price. Ask at the tourist office in either town about the tours and where they go. I give both tourist offices A+ ratings for friendliness and helpfulness.
