Gallivare Vacation Guide
Gällivare is a town in the Lapland of Sweden that lies in the Norrbotten region. It is about 100km north of the arctic circle and the end of the Inlandsbanan railway. The winter months are dark and cold but the summer offers the land of the midnight sun.
If you are an outdoor person, there is plenty to do in Gällivare year round. The summer season offers canoeing and white water raftin, hiking, fishing and berry picking(cloudberries!) The winter months offer downhill skiing on the nearby Dundret, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, sleigh rides, and also the opportunity to help some Sami with the reindeer herding(usually requires a few days of commitment).
Options for accommodations range from hotels, hostels, b&b's, camping, and cabins; however Gällivare doesn't offer much by way of food except for a few chain restaurants and a couple of local places. If nature time is what you need then Gällivare has got you covered!
