For those who don’t know about Gallipoli, I’ll explain it:
Australia had it’s first colony established only as recently as January 26th 1788 when Captain Cook first sailed into Sydney Harbour with the First Fleet of settlers.
However, it wasn’t until January 1st 1901 that the separate colonies were united into one Federal Nation.
When Britain declared war against Germany in 1914, Australia was quick to answer the call of the motherland and go to her aid. Man...

Here is the first of my Turkey tour blogs - insha'allah. It was such an amazing experience and we saw so much that I can't hope to remember all of it, so this is my best way of remembering all the little details that made the trip so unforgettable. If you ask the average American to tell you about the battle of Gallipoli in World War, there's a fair chance all you'll get is a shoulder shrug or a well-articulated "Huh? Gallipo-wha?" Some may recall it as a footnote in Mel Gibson's early...

Ephesus.
Our next stop was Ephesus
(Efes), often considered to be the best preserved classical city. Ephesus was settled by
the Ionians ~1000 BCE, and became a great trading and religion city. It was the
centre for the cult of Cybele, the Anatolian fertility goddess who became
Artemis in the Greek pantheon and Diana in the Roman pantheon. Ephesus
was part of the Kingdom
of Lydia, who were
apparently the first to invent coins (~650 BCE), and then all types of games
during an 18 year...

I had only been in London a few weeks when I saw an ad for Anzac Day tours of Gallipoli. I booked it 6 months in advance and managed to get 5 others to join me. I had heard great things about visiting Gallipoli and paying respect to the fallen soldiers but I didn't know a lot about it all. In the past week I received the best history lesson of my life and strongly recommend the trip to any Australian lucky enough to be in a position to do so.We had a Turkish guide who did well to explain the ...

This is my Bog Blog!
Call them whatever you like:
dunnies, pissers, gravy bowls, pissoirs, porcelain caves, potties, loos, crappers, dumpers, shitters, outhouses, throne, bogs, longdrops, WC's.
As much as we dont want to think about it, even good looking girls have to crap every day!
The vast array of toilets in the world have fascinated me for a long time.
This blog will be continuously updated as long as I continue to travel the world and wake up needing to hang a dump.

As more and more people came in the space available diminished. A few times during the night - around 2 or 3am - the host jumped on the mic and asked for everyone on the grassed area to squish up as more bus loads were coming in. At about 4am he asked if we could all wake up and sit up so more people could fit. As alot of people were able to sleep through the "entertainment" they were also oblivious to the announcements. But quite a few people did make some room allo...

The ANZAC Ode, from "The Fallen" by Laurence BinyonThey shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

At 3am the MC for the dawn service jumped behind the microphone, waking everyone up. He did so to inform us that there were still many people on the way to Gallipoli and asked us to accommodate the latecomers by squashing up even more. Yeah, right. Be they fellow ANZACs or not, I don’t think too many of us who arrived the day before were too willing to give up much of the little space we’d secured by lying in the freezing cold all night!! Michelle and I nodded off again....

Happy New Year all! Well.. Last nıght was.. interestıng to say the least. Consıderıng the folks ın the Eastern States celebrated NY at 2pm Turk time and the crew at home at 6pm. But hey. Twas an experıence to say the least. Yesterday. vısıted Troy and Gallıpolı. yadda yadda. The ruıns of Troy were all behind all these damned securıty fencing, thereby preventıng me from clımbıng all over them as per usual. (Ref Ephesus et al). Gallipoli was ıncredıble. It was so peaceful, yet ...
