The Gallery Inn is the coolest hotel that I have ever visited. It inhabits a residence that was built for Spanish aristocrats in the 1700s. Its age and history make it truly unique. The rooms have beautiful, dark wood rafters and, on occasion, secret stairways. You access the rooms by walking through a lush courtyard (that also serves as a home for the resident artist/owner's cockatoos). If you want to relax, you can hang out in the music room (which is frequented by professional musicians who need to practice) or on the deck (the highest point in Old San Juan), which affords marvelous views of the stars, the ocean, and the city. The Gallery Inn has a great location. It is close to the famous forts and assorted museums.
(NOTE: Again, I do not remember the cost. Thus, my meter rating should be ignored.)
