Gainesville Vacation Guide
Gainesville, Florida is home to the state's flagship university, the University of Florida. Located in the north central portion of the state, Alachua County, the area is known for its springs, lakes, prairies and forested lands. The city itself has many forested areas in the city limits, and at times you will forget you are in the middle of a busy college town.
With a strong influence from the university and a large student population, many restaurants and stores are open late into the night. In addition to museums and performing art centers, that are located on the UF campus, the area has a variety of state, city and county parks, which are popular for outdoor recreation. One of these is the Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail.
If you're a football fan, you have to visit Gainesville in the fall of each year. On Florida Gator football weekends the entire town turns into one big outdoor cocktail party... it’s great! ... The ultimate college experience ;-) Championship game nights are even bigger, more so now that both the Football team and Basketball teams have won nation championships.
If you want to have the ultimate college experience, come during the Fall semester. If college students are not your thing, try Gainesville during the off season between May and July. Either way, the City of Gainesville is one unique, must see city on your travels through Florida.

Took an afternoon and visited one of my favorite places, the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville, Florida. It's part of the University of Florida and a fantastic experience for both young and old. :)
