Gainesville, Florida is home to the state's flagship university, the University of Florida. Located in the north central portion of the state, Alachua County, the area is known for its springs, lakes, prairies and forested lands.

With a strong influence from the university and a large student population, many restaurants and stores are open late into the night. In addition to museums and performing art centers, that are located on the UF campus, the area has a variety of state, city and county parks, which are popular for outdoor recreation.

If you're a football fan, you have to visit Gainesville in the fall of each year. On Florida Gator football weekends the entire town turns into one big outdoor cocktail party... it’s great! ... The ultimate college experience ;-)
