Landshut's houses were built on long but narrow patches of land, with the gables lined up

along the streets. All the streets in the old town have them. They are the most striking feature in the old town's appearance. All the gables are different. There are not two alike. Look at the details.

The oldest of these are indeed medieval i.e. gothic, but many are younger. There are facades from the Renaissance, the baroque era, and also many from the 19th century in the various styles of historism. Sometimes it is hard to distinguish a real medieval one from a 19th century fake.

A funny local speciality of some gothic (and neogothic) houses are the little turrets lined up along the edge of the gable.
