Jeff climbed Mount Fuji to 12,300 feet (3,700 meters): 10 hrs. up and 4 hrs. down. Jeff's climbing buddy was Tim from WI who he met on the way to the volcanoes. Mt. Fuji is actually 3 volcanoes merged together. The weather was aweful but Tim was able to get a shelter at the "Fuji-san Hotel" (better…

Here is more about the adventures of climbing Mout Fuji in Japan with Tim from Neenah, WI in August 2005:
Tim used a headlamp and I had a large 2-D cell flashlight with a swivel head on it clipped to my outer waterproof garment. It may seem silly at first to be wearing cheap sunglasses while…

Forget personal hygiene. The sunrise was amazing. The air was thin. There is a lack of oxygen evident when we start the climb. And reaching the summit was a surreal experience. We were woken up by one of the staff, letting us know it was sunrise and time was up. We grabbed our cameras and saw an am…

Harald, Li san and I decided to climb Mt. Fuji during a night trip to make it to the top to see the sunrise at 4.30 am. It was around 9 pm when we decided to take our flashlights and move uphill. In the beginning there were no issues, besides Li san lost power of his flashlight climbing in pitch bl…

I had decided to visit Mt. Fuji today and as I woke I was incredibly pleased to see that there was not a cloud in the sky - this would be the perfect day to go to the see one of the most famous vistas in Japan. I had read that the best (and easiest) way to get to Mt. Fuji, or Fuji-san as it i…

One of the first things I heard when I came to Japan was how horrible climbing Fuji was supposed to be.In fact, there is a saying in Japan that goes along the lines of "A wise man climbs fuji once, a fool climbs it twice".I was tempted to relinquish my wise man status and not climb it at all.And in…

It was a beautiful sunny day, with a cloud here and there, to visit Mount Fuji, Japan's most famous mountain.
After picking more people from hotels, we drove off. On the way, we stopped to take some pictures of Mount Fuji in the distance, while it was still clearly visible. The tour guide of that …
