Ft. snelling State Park is a great place to just relax. It's impressive how many state parks are in this area and I have a couple that I REALLY want to go to (like Itasca State Park up North where the Mississippi starts) but considering this park is 7 miles away from where I live it's really easy and convenient to get to.
The one thing about Minnesota is that it is really flat... so since I'm from the edge of the Apalacian Mts and a hill is what they consider mountains over here it was an easy hike/walk! The trail was beautiful and there are benches a long the way so you can sit and just enjoy nature! There are 18 miles of cross-country skiing trails, 18 miles of hiking trails, 5 miles of biking trails, golf and canoe rentals, picnicking, fishing, boating, and swimming. There is also the nearby Fort Snelling Golf Course. There is a daily entrance fee of $7.00 or an annual pass for $25.00.  Part of the My Snow Globe I call Home...
