Great food and drink Apr 06, 2010
Situated along the main road of Th Sisavangvong are numerous stalls which sell a variety of freshly made baguettes and fruit shakes. Although the heat and water content of the fruit shakes made me a little sceptical about the quality of the products on offer here, there was no need as I didn’t suffer any nasty side effects and didn’t hear from any other backpacker about such stuff either.

The baguettes and fruit shakes are really cheap and great quality. The baguettes are freshly made (great French influence still) and usually consist of chicken, cheese and salad. They were very well made. The fruit shakes are labelled as such, but this is not entirely accurate. The shakes consist of crushed ice, freshly squeezed fruit juice and a sugary syrup - all blended together for perfection. The range of fruits is quite extensive too, and the stalls usually offer the same variety. My personal favourite was the lemon or lemon and lime flavours - incredibly refreshing in the heat.

If you are in Luang Prabang, and need something to eat or drink, these stalls are well worth checking out. The quality is excellent and the value for money is very good. Considering that the stall holders work very hard and long hours, you get the sense that you’re supporting the local community too.
