A great place to meet the locals Jul 01, 2012
I got attracted by the Frognerparken due to the Vigeland Sculpture Park which is part of it. I saw the amazing monolith on various pictures and thought it must be great to see it myself.

Frognerparken is the biggest park in central Oslo (450,000 sqm.) and a popular recreational area for the locals and tourists. In summer the park is crowded (even in the pouring rain as I found out) and different events take place there like the "4th of July Party" which we joined.

You can go for a run there, walk the dog, have a picnic or bbq or just hang out in the sun. Not to forget to marvel at the huge sculptures made by Gustav Vigeland. Additional to that Frognerparken has the biggest collection of roses; a total of 14,000 plants of 150 different species, in Norway.

The Oslo City Museum and Frogner Manor House are at the edge of the park. There's also a summer-open café and restaurant and a huge play ground for kids. Additional to that the Frogner Stadium and Frogner Open-Air bath.

The Vigeland Sculpture Park is the life work of the artist Gustav Vigeland (1869 - 1943) with more than 200 sculptures in bronze, granit and cast iron. Vigeland was also responsible for the design and architectual outline of the park. Some people are offended because all of the statues are showing nude people. IMO the statues have a very powerful and strong expression combined with a human message.

The park can easily reached by public transport. A bus and tram station is right in front of the main entrance.

Frognerparken Apr 08, 2011
public park located at Frogner in Oslo, Norway. The park contains the famous Vigeland Sculpture Park designed by Gustav Vigeland.

Frogner Park consists of various bridges, fountains, popular in the summer. It also contains both Frognerbadet and Frogner Stadium. The park is the largest park in the city and covers 320 hectares. It's a beautiful park, so if you have time bring your camera, ipod or a book and just enjoy. also great for running.

Sculptures by Gustav Vigeland i an nice park Apr 15, 2011
The park ist 10 minutes from the city center by tram. Stop "Vigelandparken". The park is nice (baroque stile) and a good place to take a walk. If you are offended by nudity - stay away :) - all sculptures are nude people. If you don't car, take a walk. It's free to visit.

Close to Oslo bymuseum (City museum of Oslo).
