Fringe Bar, Oxford Street, Paddington Reviews

Sep 17, 2007
This is a great little bar, and has been running a long-standing comedy night on a Monday night, which is what we went for. The bar itself is gorgeous, really done in a plush bordello style with unusual twists and quirky lighting. It costs 10 AUS dollars to get in on a Monday, though if you pre-book you can get a 25 dollar deal which includes entry, meal and a drink. It's probably a good idea to pre-book anyway if you want to eat since when we arrived every table in the main seating area was reserved so we had to eat in the back room and come into the main room to stand when the acts came on. The food was good, all usual drinks, didn't try the wine list. The host was a bit average, we liked him but felt he ought to have been funnier than he was, and we also saw Sol Bernstein (Jewish pensioner alter-ego of comedian Steve Jameson) who was very unusual but quite funny, and Mick Mereditch who was excellent, though relied heavily on Australian culture and society for humour so some jokes will go over tourist's head. Still I would have been happy to see more of him. I will be back to this little night, and probably to the bar on other nights as well.
