Friendship Park May 11, 2017
This park is located behind Rossiya Shopping Mall and next to Gorky Library and Luhansk Hotel and faces the main street.

Its area used to be a city cemetery, but the cemetery was closed and turned into a park about thirty years ago.

There is the central alley leading to the old fountain closed down about fifteen or twenty years ago.

You can see memorials to the left and to the right during your stroll along this alley.

There is a wooden church to the left - the only one of its kind in the city.

Also, here you can see the new 1932-1933 Famine Memorial dedicated in November 2008. The inscription at the pedestal reads, “Rest in peace, you who starved to death!”

To the right of the alley there are two other memorials: the tomb of more than 500 Soviet soldiers who died of woods at the military hospitals of Luhansk during the Second World War. People in this city still call that war the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

In addition, you can see our Afghan War Memorial with the names of more than 150 soldiers and officers who fell in line of duty in that country in 1979-1989.

February 15 is Afghan War Memorial Day. On that day the participants of that war gather near Afghan Memorial, make speeches, sing soldiers' songs, and lay flowers to the memorial paying tribute to the victims of that war.
