www.streetfriends.org I was taken to this place with a group. It was such a great place, colorful, friendly, and really great Cambodian- French food. And It supports a great cause. You definitely have to go! "a cafe staffed by ex-street kids who are being trained for careers in hospitality. Pull up a seat at Friends and you can instantly see where your dollars are going: a school out the back full of healthy kids running everywhere and causing mischief." Wherever I travel I normally try to select a restaurant that has a charitable goal. One of these was Friends in Phnom Penh. Quite an interesting place because they help out street youth by teaching them how to cook and serve. And they were doing quite a nice job at it. You could order lots of tapas-sized dishes or a normal meal, which I did (Chicken with Soya sauce). The beers were good as well: huge bottles of Angkor Beer.

Probably the most emotional place I've ever been to.The Killing Fields are just desperate. I can't even contemplate what the Cambodians were thinking, to treat their fellow countrymen this way. The S21 is even more tearing of the emotions. Some pret…even more tearing of the emotions. Some pretty sick people are still alive, from the torture chambers. Make sure you visit the Friends Cafe - great food, but get there in good-time, as the queues can be quite long. It's also a fantastic cause.

The alarm goes off. I wake to hear skuttling around outside my room. I look outside to see a few of the girls from the hotel check-in and bar outside my window. I notice they are in front of a washer. Just my luck. The washroom is right outside one …friends. We all chat and decide to go to Metro Cafe for lunch. She has hired a motorbike driver for the day. He is waiting for her so she chooses to ride with him. We chat about her on the ride there. My friends are needling… Cambodia - 5 |
