Friend House

This place was warm and friendly. I rang ahead to request a room and once we arrived we were greeted by the friendly owner. He showed us to our room, didn't want to see our passports or accept any deposit upfront! We were given ice cold beers and he will prepare anything you request. When the owner went to bed he left the bar fridge open and kitchen at our disposal, just asking to write down anything we had and fix up the bill later - very trusting and it seems to create the warm vibe of the place. My friend and I stayed in a double room and the bed was enoromous and comfortable - I don't think individual/share rooms are as lucky though. The room also had its own (compact) bathroom (sit down on the toilet to take a shower!) and interesting purple fungi growing next to the basin (old teak rooms tend to attract this!).
