Europe's largest cemetery Sep 27, 2015
With 1.5 million buried bodies, Ohlsdorf Cemetery is Europe's largest cemetery, second only to Wadi-us-Salaam in Najaf, Iraq.

Due to its tremendous size, visitors can drive with their own car or ride one of two public bus lines, which are running every 15 minutes. Cycling tours regularly pass through Ohlsdorf Cemetery. It takes hours to walk from one edge to another edge and the possibility to find a famous tomb by chance is quite low.

Ohlsdorf Cemetery is a park which is usually quite quiet, without the disturbing activities offered by an ordinary park. The most splendid tombs are located near the western main entrance, where rich and famous citizens are buried. Moving on, visitors can see the plain tombstones of ordinary citizens, but also the mass graves of soldiers and prisoners of war.
