Friar Tuck's Reviews
Great hangout during AirVenture Jul 26, 2008
I have absolutely no idea what it might be like during the other 51 weeks of the year but for one shining week in late July, Friar Tuck’s is a Mecca for pilots and other people who love things that fly. Immediately adjacent to Oshkosh’s Wittman Field, Friar Tuck’s is within easy walking distance for the hundreds of thousands who attend AirVenture each year. Consequently, it’s packed with people with at least that one thing in common.
It’s somewhat like an English pub but IMHO with better food. Not surprisingly for this part of the world, the menu features brats and beer in addition to the fish and chips. Though certainly not gourmet, the food is always plentiful and good and service is friendly and efficient in spite of the crowds. In many places who host large annual events, the “locals” may cater to the visitors but really resent them. Oshkosh is most definitely not that kind of a town. At Friar Tuck’s as virtually everywhere in town, the locals always make us feel welcome. I’ve attended AirVenture many times with my friends and each year our first meal is always at Friar Tuck’s. After quickly setting up camp, we rushed to Friar Tuck's for a late lunch. I'm guessing Friar Tuck's would be a nice little pub at any time but during AirVenture, when it's packed solid with pilots, it's just magical and our traditional way to start the festivities… Gathering of Eagles (and Old Buzzards) |
