So today is my first day in Thuringen visiting my dad. He had picked me up in Bavaria and then we drove the ca. 5 hours to Erfurt. though this is a reconstruction from the 19th century, the origins of the fortress date back to AD 83. it was abandoned in AD 260. what is left behind are nearly a thousand years of history, and an incredible proof of the might and vast empire of the Roman world.  there is a museum located within the property, housing a number of objects that werediscovered from the ancient romans, including pottery, coins, weapons, and shoes - most of them found deep inside the fortresses wells.
