Unless you like to walk the streets of NY with freezing, wet toes, you shouldn't wear your Vans in the winter. Especially with all the traffic in NY, it gets from snow to gray slush very quickly. Put on a good pair of waterproof boots (it's worth the investment) and go walking in the city when it has just snowed. The snow gives a wonderful, muffled feel to this otherwise noisy, hectic city. And don't miss Central Park with all the people with their conventional or make-shift sleds.
