Sachsenhausen is the other side of Frankfurt, meaning the other side of the Main that is. It is the part of the "Old town" with all it's famous Applewinepubs. Applewine is the traditional drink of Frankfurt and MOST Frankfurters will prefer it to a beer anyday. There are two types of Applewine (German: Äppelwoi, Ebblewoi)
Rauscher - it is in the beginning of the fermenting process, it does not have so much alcohol yet, but enough to give you a good buzz (Rausch) so I guess roughly translated it is a Buzzer Alter - "alt" meaning old - so Alter is old man, old wine, old (anything masculin) Long explanation - but necessary for you to understand Frau Rauscher. There are a song, an Applewine and a well dedicated for her. The well welcomes tourists to Sachsenhausen and is fun to watch, if you are in the area. The refrain on the song goes as follows: Die Fraa Rauscher aus de Klappergass, die hoot e Beul am Ei, ob des vom Rauscher, obs vom Alte kimmt, des klärt die Bolizei. Mrs. Rauscher from the Klappergass (that cobblestone street where you will find her) has a bump on her head, if it comes from the Rauscher (the buzzer) or the old one (NOT referring to her husband - as most tourists assume, but actually the old applewine) the police will clear up. The song is written completely in the Frankfurt dialect and for example refers to the green coming - since the police used to be dressed in green.
