We arrived at Franz Joseph in torrential rain and settled in to the Monrose Hostel, don't stay in any rooms next to the showers, it was dreadfully noisy, plus there were no power points in the room which was deeply annoying. Aside from that we had a nice evening watching the rain and preparing for our glacier walk early the next morning. We've had the most fortunate time with the weather for the whole trip so far (except for the Bay of Islands!), so it had to give-up sometime!  It gave-up in style at Franz Joseph Township, spectacularly soaking us to the skin in just a 5 minute walk back to our hostel!   This meant very low visibility, which in turn meant that glacier visiting was pretty pointless.  We had seen plenty of glaciers up-close and personal in Argentina, so it wasn't the end of the world for us....
