Today we headed back to the States. We got up really early this morning because once again, some of us had to take the train and then some of us (well actually just me) rode in a car with all the luggage. We got to Dresden with plenty of time to spare before our flight to Frankfurt. After arriving in Frankfurt, I made a mad dash around to the other side of the airport to go to the South African Airways desk, to deal with a flight I am taking from Frankfurt to Nairobi with th…

The joy of leaving India behind us was matched by the joy of arriving in Germany. The difference in our mood was immediate. The second we stepped off the plane our spirits lifted and the cleanliness and efficiency of the west was a most welcome tonic. Our path through the airport was easy and it was a joy not to have people shouting at us offering a taxi or trying to grab our bags. It's ironic that apart from in Japan the last six months of travel have never found us having problems with a la…

So, I'm here in the Frankfurt International Airport waiting at the gate for my flight to Vienna. Well, this time around, this trip didn't feel like a big deal as if I'm used to traveling alone or something. Funny how my dad told me several times that he wouldn't have let me go travelling alone. *sigh* I understand that parents do get worried and all but I've been to Europe before and they didn't know I travelled alone sometimes last summer. Geez I'm 22 years old! …

With a day to spare whilst the final preparations for the wedding were undertaken I decided to take Pat into Frankfurt itself so that she could see where Rebecca actually lives.
We didn’t get off to a very good start however when we arrived at the station to find that the trains to Frankfurt were indeed pretty regular - apart for the hour we had chosen to set off!! So with the best part of an hour to kill we went for a stroll through the town, bumping into my parents again on the way …

I finally made it to Frankfurt. I got into Philadelphia around 2pm yesterday and then was supposed to leave for Frankfurt at 6pm. Apparently Lufthansa has been having some workers go on strike recently so because of that our plane didn't leave until 7. Then we sat in a line for an hour and a half waiting to take off. But none the less, I made it here. I am going to meet a friend of mine in the city at 12:30 so rightn now I am taking up my time catching up on emails and of course, up…

Frankfurt am Main is not only the economic heart of Germany, in fact it could well be the banking center of Europe. All sky scrapers of the city belong to (german) banks and the European Central Bank (monsiour Trichets ECB) has its seat here.
But the city of Frankfurt has more to offer than banks. Although it has not many old buildings left, some of them are very beautiful. Most of them are in the Romer area. While I visited Frankfurt, I did a river cruise Not quite spectacular, but you get …

We, one of my best friends and I, studied for almost 5.5 years at the same school. After we finished our Bachelor degree we made some 'vage' plans to visit Brasil and some friends after we finished our Master degree.
June 2008, we both finished school and we gave each other tickets, roundtrip Frankfurt - Recife, as a gift for the hard working years at school. Finally we made it!? We booked a flight and with the help of 'Lonely Planet, Brazil' we went to Recife ... Sometimes our…

After a good sleep on board I was almost back home. Just one hour flight between myself and my home town. Had a quick breakfast, took a photo of a blurred looking sky, and also had the chance to take a good shot of Frankfurt airport.Ah, I really love travelling and looking forward to my trip to London next week. And who knows, maybe you'll here from me again :)Bye bye

I went to the zoo in Frankfurt today. Despite hating animals, I've always been rather fond of the zoo. I used to think it was because they were all in their cages, but today I was thinking how it's also a thrill. In the way that other people watch horror films or CSI because they secretly enjoy being disgusted and scared? That's kind of how I feel about being surrounded by all these animals. Pleasure in how gross it all is. Because there are very few animal…

Didn’t have much time to do anything outside of work in Frankfurt, only got to go to Goethe’s House, who believe it or not is one of my favorite writers {www.goethehaus-frankfurt.de}, and the Kunshalle Schirn, an art museum I hadn’t been to yet. As to my state of mind at the time, this conversation explains it perfectly:
“Where were you all afternoon?”
“Temporarily dead.”
“Ah, nuff said.”
Now read the last line again with a heavy German accent. . .

First of all I would like to thank the band Toto for their 1982 classic "Africa" for inspiring the title of this blog. Africa is a continent that has always fascinated me, ever since I was little. I remember when Nelson Mandela won the elections in South Africa in 1994 (I was 9) and they kept showing shots of the country on the news and remember telling my mom that I wanted to go there cause it looked really nice and so that I could spot all the animals I liked so much from Zoo Books.&n…

This was my first time going all alone to a foreign country, and as this was even for 5 weeks and for an internship, I was excited, nervous and everything else one can imagine for days. I was checking at least every 10 minutes, whether I had my ID and other important stuff with me. Moreover, I feared all the time to miss my flight so that I arrived 2 hours earlier....and within 15 minutes I got from the train station to the gate^^. So I had almost 2 hours to sit around and to worry and to mak…
