Franceville is a city of apporximately 20k-25k located in southeastern Gabon near the border with the Republic of the Congo. It is possible to drive to Franceville from the coast but it is ill advised as the roads are not paved for the entire trip and the rainy season makes them nearly impassable. The best way to get to Franceville is by train. Franceville is built amongst rolling hills, with the Oboume river running through town. It has good paved roads and is not crowded at all. The houses tend to be spaced out well, and the sanitation seemed to be good. Franceville in comparison to Libreville is far nicer. This could be attributed to the fact that it is the capital of the Haut-Ogoue province which is the birthplace of Gabonese President Omar Bongo Ondimba. His birthplace, now named "Bongoville" is located roughly 50 km to the northeast of Francevile. Franceville is surrounded by jungle and bush-meat is still available in town, making the town a great destination for more adventurous minded travelers.
