Since I was still overwhelmed by all I had seen the day before at the Louvre I was going to take it easy today. After all I had already seen some of the most important sights. At least the ones that were important to me. hehe I started with another wonderful breakfast at the same place from yesterday. After charging my batteries for yet another day of walking I made my way back to my main goal for today. There was already a line outside Notre Dame so I waited. I wanted to climb to the bell to...

We arrived at charles de gaulle airport and we were like oh my god!!! for anyone who hasn't been its one of the most confusing airports ever (and the fact that the shuttle wasn't working didnt help!). we bought a 3 day metro pass at the airport which made things easier, i think it was about 30 euros. When we got to Paris centre we found our hotel no problem . . . the only problem there was, was there was something wrong with our room so we were moved to a different place. The lady behind rece...

The Centre Georges Pompidou is one of the most controversial building in Paris.A piece of art of his own, it is made to maximise it's internal volumes, so everything which "should" be inside the building is actually outside the building. So from the outside it's really... Controversial... to put a very industrial like building in the very historical heart of Paris... Ah! Ces Français!!! :-)What is interesting is that what is inside that museum is also very controversial for most people....

After that short night, I stand up with very sleepy eyes and without the enthousiasme I normally have. We go to the breakfast and have our meal. When finishing our breakfast round 7:30 we pass the entry of the breakfast-room and see that there is a waiting line of 100 meters, I can't believe my eyes, the room was full and 300 other people are waiting to have their breakfast!! Again I must say thank you to our friend Jo, who is here for the 17th time and has a lot of experience here because he ...

The Seine River flows 480 miles through France, from Dijon in the alps, northwest to Le Havre, cutting Paris in half on its journey. The division in Paris gives the city distinct, geographic division, with monuments and quarters being designated in relation to the Seine River. The Eiffel Tour, Hotel des Invalides, and the Musee d’Orsay are on the south bank. While the Louvre, Grand Palais, and Concorde can be found on the north bank. Notre Dame Cathedral, the place du Parvis Notre Dam...

We flew from London to Nice where we spent the first three days of our honeymoon. We ended up not getting on with Nice particularly well. It didn't help that they were digging up the centre to install a new tram system.
We stayed in a mid-range hotel in the centre of town, from where we were able to walk to the old town as well as to the beach and an area with a number of restaurants. We did have a lovely meal one evening at a rather expensive restaurant that we found in a small courtyard. T...

Concerning the flight over from San Francisco to Paris, I only recall a few things. The first thing I remember is that part of the airplane was falling apart. Only a few minutes after liftoff, part of the ceiling on the interior of the plane shook loose. It was only a tiny piece of the inside paneling that came loose, and not some gaping hole in the structure of the plane that sucked people outside to their dooms, but it was disconcerting nonetheless. I remember taking a picture of the ...

My father had a close Friench friend. He'd come to Japan and visited our house. I wanted to see him in Paris, but he had a serious sick, so his wife came to see me. Though she couldn't speak English and I couldn't speak French, we hugged tightly each other. I hadn't visited Paris since then, so I belive that meeting might have been a once-in-a-lifetime event.

We got up fairly (!!) early and my sister decided she wasn't in the mood for art. So, we left her at the hotel. Me and my Mam went shoe-shopping first cos my Mam's feet were killing her in sandles (and it was pissing rain). We found a shop that sold designer trainers for half what you'd pay in Ireland. That's strange for Paris cos it's usually so expensive. But we were still in Montmartre and I found that the shop there aren't as over-priced as in the city centre. Anyway we bought some comfy ...

While in France, you MUST take the leap to try the cheese. I'll admit...there are sooooooo many types and many have such DISTINCT odors that it can be intimidating but TRUST - IT IS WORTH IT! For the soft cheese, the tamest is the brique. It is somewhere between cheese and butter but so fabulous (its the kids cheese for the french but it is so good that I have no shame for my adult enjoyment). Next would be the brie and the camembert. Munster, while nothing like the munster I ever had in...

What can you say about Paris - it's awesome! The weather in April can be iffy, but the trees start opening and the crowds aren't crazy like summer. Despite what some people say, as long as you make a little effort, the French are friendly and helpful. And the food, ..., and the wine ... OMG!!!

Dominating the city of Geneva but located in France is the Saleve mountain with its impressive cliffs facing the Jura mountains. The French-Swiss border runs parallel to the cliff, about one kilometre away from it. From the top of Saleve there is a beautiful 360 degree panorama with on one side Geneva, Lake Leman and the Jura, and on the other side the Alps and Mont Blanc. It is possible to drive there or take a cable car from Le Pas de l'Echelle / Veyrier. But you can also walk to ...

It was a nearly 100-meter-high cliff, with perpendicular sides jutting out into the Channel. It looked down on Utah Beach to the left and Omaha Beach to the right. There were six 155mm cannon in heavily reinforced concrete bunkers that were capable of hitting either beach with their big shells. On the outermost edge of the cliff, the Germans had an elaborate, well-protected outpost, where the spotters had a perfect view and could call back coordinates to the gunners at the 155s. Those guns ha...
