Twenty Minutes in France
posted by:

Bourg-Madame, France is a quaint little border town just past Spain's Tunel de Cadi in the Pyrenees Mountains.  We stopped here for a brief break and to take some photos.  Had there not been a sign indicating that we had entered France, we would have never known that we crossed to border until we saw some signs written in French. Bourg-Madame is part of the Cerdanya, a region in the Eastern Pyrenees that is 1/2 French and 1/2 Spanish.  I hadn't realized it until this trip tha…

Entry #02 - Annecy, France
posted by:

I lived in France for almost 3 years and still speak fluent French.  So, naturally I came to visit Cristobal, Jaki, Ben, Alban, Margaux and everyone in Annecy for 4 days of NON-STOP fun.  I lived here in the Alpes - in Grenoble which is 1.5 hours south of Geneva.  For you Americans, I like to describe it as, "the city of Berkeley in the Yosemite Valley."  Check out the photos (below).  When I lived here back in 1998, I…

The European Parliament
posted by:
May 01, 2006
The European Parliament is the only directly-elected body of the European Union. The 785 Members of the European Parliament are there to represent you, the citizen. They are elected once every five years by voters right across the 27 Member States of the European Union on behalf of its 492 million citizens. The work of the European Parliament is important because in many policy areas, decisions on new European laws are made jointly by Parliament and the Council of Ministers, which represents…

Viva la France!!

So, after our long flt, we find our hotel. We took the subway to the hotel. The staff was quite shocked that we knew how to use the subway, yes, Americans don't always use taxis. Ha Ha!!! We stayed at the Best Western in the Latin Quarter on Rue de Rennes. The room was small, which is typical in Europe, plus who stays in them!! The hotel was clean, staff friendly, etc.............. We headed off to Notre Dame to start our day on foot. Once we got up there we decided …

Paris, je taime!
posted by:
Mar 27, 2008 - Mar 29, 2008
We managed to cross off a good chunk of sights and activities from our Paris To-Do List that first day. The second day promised to be just as busy. Luckily for us, we woke up bright and early and were delighted to be greeted by actual blue sky and sun! It was a good thing, too. My only pair of flat shoes had dried from the rain the day before and I would have been pissed if it rained again. And here I was thinking of packing 4 pairs... I should have at least packed one more pair. After an amaz…

Paris - Pre-Tournament
posted by:
Sep 05, 2007 - Sep 15, 2007
My sister and I spent 2 and a half days speed-sightseeing in Paris prior to shipping off to Marseille for the first All Blacks game.  I won't bore anyone with my observations of a city practically everyone has visited. All I'll say is this: 1. Parisians are marginally nicer than they're made out to be; 2. Beware the subterranean portion of the Louvre - it's been converted from hallowed ground into a frighteningly sanitized American-style mall, complete with Swarovski and…

Visiting Paris I discovered that it was necesary a guide, you could appreciate the city much better. I was lucky because we studied this year at school everything we would see at Paris. I recomend know something about art before travel a place like Paris, Rome or Grece. You will see things knowing art that you couldn´t see without knowing it.In Paris you could lie down on gardens (thing that is imposible in Spain for exaple) and rest wile you are enjoing the monument like The Palace of Luxem…

I flew into the Charles de Gaulle for the first time in '06 not speaking a lick of French and having only heard it by playing Amelie about a thousand times in a row.  I did read the unabridged version of Hugo's Les Miserables in high school but I scarcely think that counts as I was pronouncing all the Ss.  Pathetique!  But I managed and learned a thing or two about traveling among those who do not understand me.  I think I did well in Spanish class because I was speaking w…

While in France, you MUST take the leap to try the cheese. I'll admit...there are sooooooo many types and many have such DISTINCT odors that it can be intimidating but TRUST - IT IS WORTH IT! For the soft cheese, the tamest is the brique. It is somewhere between cheese and butter but so fabulous (its the kids cheese for the french but it is so good that I have no shame for my adult enjoyment). Next would be the brie and the camembert. Munster, while nothing like the munster I ever had in…

It was 11 O' Clock by the time we got to the RER station and the train came soon after. As soon as reached the top of the escalator we saw the sign for Disneyland. The triplets nearly lost their lives! And us adults weren't much better. It was amazing to see that familiar logo. As we left the station we decided to see Disneyland Park first and Disneyland studios on Friday. There was no queue for tickets as it was midweek and also a bad day weather-wise. For a 2 day ticket, to both parks we sp…

Spring in Paris
posted by:
May 01, 2008 - May 04, 2008
It was pure luck that we arrived in Paris in such a great weather.  The umbrella we brought with us was only used once and the rest of our 4 days stay was pure bliss.  Gorgeous weather in such a gorgeous city! Paris was exactly how i imagined it to be, in fact, way better.  Spring made it all glorious, because i found out that it was at this time when they start to have the white nights.  [Strange as it may seem that for some Asian like me, we actually have a word fo…
