Foxys Beach Bar Dec 19, 2008
There is virtually nothing on the beautiful little British Virgin Island of Jost Van Dyke with the exception of goats, some lovely beaches and a couple joints to score rum drinks during a daytrip visit by boat...and my favorite is Foxy’s. The owner, Foxy Callwood, is a wonderful story-teller and musician who started the venue in 1968 and still entertains almost daily each afternoon.

The bar itself is nothing to write home about - basically a few walls with a tarp over the sand. But you will find countless business cards, bras, panties, etc., etc. pinned to the rafters from patrons across the decades. What validates the legendary status of Foxy’s is that whenever I encounter someone who owns a boat (well, an ocean-going boat anyway) they have either been here or dream of tying up in Great Harbour (the main dock on Jost Van Dyke) to have a drink. The jewel for the sailing crowd is attending the New Year’s Eve bash at Foxy’s – I’ve been told you could practically walk from the neighboring islands of Tortola and St. John because it is bumper to bumper boats that night! Was also told the Beach Boys performed at one of the NYE parties, but who knows?

So if you find yourself about on a boat in the Virgin Islands, your excursion won’t be complete until you weigh anchor at Jost Van Dyke and stop by to meet Foxy. The bar opens at 9:30AM and the kitchen at 11:30AM ---> ENJOY!
