Musical Duo for Celtic & American folk music Apr 17, 2009
Being as old as I am I have had the opportunity to see and experience quite an array of music and musical groups. But I recently had the chance to see and very much enjoy the music of “Four Shillings Short”, a duo who perform a very diverse style from Celtic, Gaelic, Irish, blues, East Indian, American folk, and even medieval and do it with a flair that makes you wonder why they haven’t become historically famous over the years. They have nine CDs dating back to 1989 and they perform nearly year-round in both the United States and Ireland. Aodh og O Tuama, originally from Cork, Ireland, plays tinwhistle, spoons, woodwinds, gemshorn and dumbeck, and vocals. Christy Martin sings and plays hammered dulcimer, mandolin, mandola, bodhran, sitar, banjo, and guitar. The two remind you of a time of hippies, but surprise you with masterfull abilities and wonderful arrangements and even a few of their own tunes. Besides the sweet music they perform their stories and banter are a joy.

If you ever get the chance to see and hear them, do not miss it.
