This is a great little modern hotel. Formerly the Chelsea Grand Hotel, it was built in 2003 and has some 150 rooms spread over 22 floors. Reception is open 24 hours and the staff at the desk
were very friendly and always willing to help with sightseeing and dining suggestions.

Our twin room was a little cozy, but comfortable,
very clean and in good condition. The beds are great! A few too many
pillows though (6 is just overkill). The bathroom was quite large
(compared to the actual room). Even though the windows are double
glazed, the rooms at the front can still be a little noisy - but hey,
that's New York! Earplugs worked a treat.

The room had a decent-sized desk, you could actually sit and write very comfortably, and an even better sized television (58cm/23") with cable. There were facilities for high-speed internet access (network cable required) and plenty of power points for recharging batteries for various electronic items. The wardrobe also housed an in-room safe, ironing board and iron. Unfortunately, no mini bar. For snacks and soft drinks, you had to take the lift down to the lower ground floor - where the fitness room/gym was - to purchase items from vending machines. Which was fine unless you didn't have change or the machines stopped working. It was easier to duck around the corner to a convenience store.

I would, however, advise
staying away from room service (very slow, overpriced and badly made).
The breakfasts are pretty much the same. Don't know what their dinners
are like - the breakfast and room service put me off trying the onsite restaurant! It was pretty small though and I figured there'd be plenty of better dining options not too far away.

Best of all is the location - Times Square, the Empire State Building, and the Theatre district are all within 2km (1 mile), and Macy's and Madison Square Garden are half that. The hotel's just off the intersection of 7th Ave, so strolling down towards SoHo and the Financial District is quite pleasant. There's also subway stops only two and a bit blocks away on 23rd at 6th, 7th and 8th Aves, if you're not up for walking.

Awesome and informative review! I was just in NY a few weeks ago, but bummed it at a friend's place :)
