A Standard Roadside-Motel Type Place Nov 14, 2008

Just stayed one night at the Four Points in Bakersfield and it was just okay. The property is an old style motel and is reminiscent of a regular roadside motel. The hotel is located right in the middle of a business park and away from the interstate (where most of the hotels and motels in Bakersfield are located). There is plenty of free, uncovered parking.

The hotel is fine, with exterior 2 story buildings making up the complex. Some rooms have exterior open patios off the back. The grounds are well-kept and the landscaping is mature.

The rooms have obviously been renovated, as the tell-tale popcorn ceilings and ancient smoke detectors will tell you. The furniture, with the exception of the bed, was really old and worn. The carpet was new, as was the bedding, so that was nice.

The room felt sort of clean - maybe a 3 out of 5. I didn't get the "dirty heebie jeebies," but it didn't feel or look super spotless, either. The bathroom is stark white, and the shower head was great - awesome water pressure!

The bed was really comfortable, and the a/c unit worked great. The flat screen t.v. was nice, as was the ergonomic work chair. The hotel also provides free internet access in all guest rooms, which is a real savings if you travel for business.

There are several fast food restaurants close-by, and the property was really quiet since it is away from the interstate. I think this is an okay place to stay if you pay less than $50 a night.

if you are ever in the bakersfield area, i suppose this hotel is the place to check out. i can't say that i am an expert on bakersfield area hotels but let me tell you that it is way better than a motel 6 but well below usual starwood hotels.

there is no handicap accessibility for the second floor rooms. this hotel is basically made up of about 4 or 5 two storey buildings set up motel style. there is a courtyard in the middle with a pool and a jacuzzi and a lovely garden. but going between buildings will expose you to the elements and during the winter, it does get cold. the stairs are outdoors and it bears repeating to say that there is no elevator or escalator. thus, if you are injured or disabled you have to request a room on the first floor. and if you have a lot of luggage, just ask for help bringing them up to the second floor.

the room i had was quite spacious although the decor was nothing to be desired. there is free internet access for 1 day. beyond that, you must pay. the tv was a flat screen and the bathroom was clean.

the fitness center was small and not as new. but there were probably 2 bikes, 2 treadmills, 4 elliptical machines, a couple of benches and some free weights.

what i did like was the service. the service was quite friendly. when i was there, the hotel hosted a guest appreciation happy hour in the lobby from 5 pm-6:30 pm. this meant FREE wine and beer and some cheeses, fruits, veggies, crackers and fried potstickers.

parking was free and plentiful.
