Medieval Fortress - Magnificent Destination for the Urban Explorer Feb 14, 2009
The medieval ghost town of a Shali lies near the Siwa Oasis. I visited in February 2009 and it was a great time to go as the area was devoid of crowds.

Shali is a perfect spot for anyone interested in urban exploration. You won't believe your eyes as the town looks like it has actually melted! Shali was inhabited until 1926 when it was destroyed by a great storm. The climb to the top is easy and should be made in time to see the breath taking sunset from the top. Wear comfortable shoes that have a good grip as parts of the climb can be tricky.

Take your time here and explore at a leisurely pace. This is a must see when visiting Siwa and one of my favorite destinations in Egypt.
