Striking Attraction Right at the Harbor Jun 23, 2010
One's exploration to the city of Heraklion starts immediately upon the entrance to the harbor because there is a fortress within the port that readily attracts the visitors - the Fortress of Koules. This massive structure was made up of noticeble thick walls and has two storeys. The ground floor has vaulted roof that became more intense because of a very huge skylight. There also exists 26 rooms at the ground floor that has a good view from the top. The second floor houses the canons. There is a very eloquent carving of the lion on the side facing the sea.

The fortress is just a walking distance from the port, so make sure to visit this fortress before doing the final boarding. It's really fantastic!!!
