Going since 1707 Aug 16, 2010
Bearing a string of royal warrants and housed in the fashionable area of Piccadilly since 1707, Fortnum and Mason are obviously doing something right. Selling a luxury array of hampers, food items, crockery, drink, tea and coffee and confectionary, the store is a very special place to do your shopping. For the vast majority of people, it’s the sort of place you go to every once in a while, ahead of a special occasion or treat.

My favourite things in this store have to be the tea and coffee (the tea ranges from £3 for 20-25 teabags, to loose leaf tea which can go into hundreds of pounds). They sell a great selection and just do it very well. The biscuits and cakes are nice, and I particularly recommend their different types of Scottish shortbread.

The staff are polite, knowledgeable, polished and slightly snobby. The whole store is quite smart over three floors. Towards the back of the ground floor, there is a restaurant which is open for all meals of the day!

This is a very special store to go too, especially at Christmas as well. Well worth visiting and purchasing just something, whatever your budget and taste.

Stylish cuisine in a landmark building Aug 02, 2008
I had the good fortune of having tea several times there. The food is top-quality, as is the entire place. It is, as a good friend said, a British institution, now fully internationalised. You get silverware, traditional butter-bread, the classical tea, and some interesting (and tasty) British food. This being my first ever experience of British cuisine, I won't buy any of the "crap food" stories. I think it's great!

Do go there if you have some money to spare. It is very expensive, but you'll remember it for life. The gift ideas are also stylish
