Fort Worth Stockyards Oct 27, 2008
Fort Worth was originated in the 19th century because it was a stop for a railway and transport train, Ranchers came and brought there cattle to be transported so there were stalls build to keep the cattle in. Development came soon after and during the past 150 years or so that particular part of town has been a area were gunslinger took it out unto the streets, bordello's were operating like in the movies and cowboys were living in the wild, wild west,
Toady, after much needed restoration this area is well worth spending a day and night in when coming to Ft. Worth. The original barns have been transformed magnificiently into bars, restaurants and shops with the railway going right thru it which is currently transporting tourist on a 1 hour tour on a steam train. The bordello is now a bed and breakfast, and the Stockyards hotel is a true Texas hotel featuring a bar which hold sadles instead of barstools. there are bars like the White Elephant that are 100 years old and host live music 4 nights a week. Most customers are locals still wearing there proud cowboy hats and boots with belt buckles that looks like Mike Tyson's Championship belt. There are numorous nightspots within blocks , Billy Bobs where all famous country singers make frequent stops is the largest Country bar in the nation holding thousands of people. All is within walking distance and tourism is minimal. located about 10 minutes north of downtown, this place is easy to reach. This area is also in a predominant Mexican neighborhood so excellent inexpensive and authentic Mexican restaurant are plentifull. Also check for rodeo's and festivals which are often. |

I like that because really, Fort Worth is only about 30 minutes from downtown Dallas and it is ‘worth’ the short drive over for a great day trip. Once you're downtow…Stockyards ( 130 E.
