Great area for a park May 31, 2010
South of Portland just a few miles is Port Elizabeth where a ninety plus acre parcel served as an Army Fort. Also located here is the Portland Head Light the oldest lighthouse in Maine. Fort Williams Park still includes several ruins of the previous stone and brick buildings from its history, and nice plaques describing what those buildings were. The Park now serves as a wonderful tourist destination, picnicking sight, concert venue, recreation area, and leisure time target. The park also includes many nice trails and many overlooks of the bay and close islands. We spent at while just slowly cruising the park and adjoining area and taking pictures.
