Fort Vancouver National Historic Site Feb 09, 2013
We visited the two main sites of Fort Vancouver on February 9th, 2013.

First, we visited the McLoughlin House in Oregon City, Oregon. John McLoughlin is widely acknowledged as the "Father of Oregon" and his actual home was moved to its current location to preserve it. I was able to tour the house with my five year old daughter, my one year old son, and my nephew. The ranger was great with the kids and they really enjoyed playing with replica toys from McLoughlin's day and seeing the old furniture in the house.

Before moving to the Oregon territory, John McLoughlin worked as the Chief Factor for the Hudson Bay Company at Fort Vancouver and this is where we next visited. We caught it right at the end of the day (closing is at 4 PM during the winter). There was still a demo open in the Blacksmith shop and the kids enjoyed running around the buildings and seeing the fort.

This house and fort are great if you want to learn about the early days of the Oregon Country
