After Astoria, we drove towards the tip of Oregon and Ft. Stevens State Park. The park encompasses the remains of old Ft. Stevens. A military station from as far back as the Civil War. Oregon was a "Northern" state and intended on keeping its interests safe from the Confederacy. We took in an artillery demonstration from that period. The guide showed various types of ammunition and then gave a practicle demonstration, loading and firing a cannon. Damn! Was that thing loud! Ah... the smell of ...
