Fort Nuestra Senora de la Soledad Apr 18, 2009
Fort Nuestra Senora de la Soledad was one of the last Spanish Forts built in 19th century on the cliff South of Umatac Bay where Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese explorer landed in the mid 1500’s. This fort was built to support the Spanish Galleon trade from English pirates. A stone sentry box still stands in the park area which was used to monitor sailing activities back then. Three cannons are also still point out over the Pacific Ocean and Umatac bay. This fort is the most preserved one compare to the other 4 that was originally built around the area.
There was a beautiful traditional hut at the area where a friendly Chamorro guy sells fresh tropical fruits. If you want to relax to view the remarkable view of Pacific Ocean and Umatac Bay from here, benches as well as small gazebos are provided around the area.
