The Fort That Saved America Jun 27, 2009
They call Fort Mifflin "The Fort That Saved America", I love History and I have never heard of this place until I saw it on the TV show Ghost Hunters. After learning about the history of the fort I realized how sad that was, how could I not know about such an important place like this. First some History.

It’s located on the banks of the Delaware River, and was originally built as a British Fort, but once the revolutionary war broke out it became an American Fort. This fort took heavy cannon fire in the year 1777, the Americans were outnumbered and out gunned, but they managed to hold their position for about 6 weeks. This lead to the Americans evacuation of the fort. Where did they go? Valley Forge. That’s right the American Soldiers that left this fort are the American Soldiers that regrouped in Valley Forge under the command of George Washington, and this is why they call Fort Mifflin the Fort That Saved America"

I came here for a ghost hunt and left with a sense of sadness because I knew nothing about this place. I have a passport to National Parks book and it is not in there, and such an important part of our history should be, after all Valley Forge is.

Getting back on topic this place was amazing. The grounds are nicely manicured, and they have restored the historic buildings on the property. Some of the buildings include the blacksmiths shop, casements, officer’s quarters and enlisted barracks, and the admin building and gift shop. If you’re going to go at night bring bug repellent, but other than mosquitoes watching the fire flies dancing across the grass was an amazing sight. I highly recommend visiting Fort Mifflin, not only is it such an important landmark, it is a nice place to take a family especially children, they will enjoy wandering through the casements or bunkers, just bring a flashlight.
