More than just a military outpost Sep 17, 2014
I would highly recommend this attraction. It costs $12 for adults, $7 (age 5-17) free for children 4 and under. You can easily spend a couple of hours there and i think that's the best way to experience the spectacular views over Marquette Park. The cannons/rifles fire every couple of hours i believe and it's a cool show especially for the young ones. A lot of unique facts about this fort. Also there is a Kids' Quarters featuring hands-on displays and interactive games.

Fort Mackinaw is a great place for those that are interested in history. It was built by the British during the American Revolution to control the passage between the great lakes, and remained in British control until 15 years after the war ended. There are many re-enactors that greet you or participate in a multitude of events. When we were there there was a session of drill and ceremony that we got to see. There is a firing of a cannon at different times of the day, as well as a rifle. There are even some great things for the kids to do. Inside there are displays of many things including a room that is what the barracks room looked like.
The only way to get to the island …
A little Drill and Ceremony
